Every posting wants two years of experience you were never allowed to get. You have three hours left in the evening after work, and you have spent them wondering whether thirty six is too late to start something new.
It isn’t too late. IT audit is one of the few technical fields that hires people without a technical resume.

The work
Who has access to the payroll system? Did the backups actually run last night? Was that Friday code change properly approved, or did someone just push it live?
You test the controls, document the evidence, and tell leadership what needs fixing.
The work is mostly investigation, with some technical knowledge on top. Career changers can learn the basics in a few weeks, and people from teaching, healthcare, retail and accounting are often better than engineers at the hardest part of the job: knowing what to ask.
Why this field
You don’t need to code and you don’t need a computer science degree. If you understand how a process works, ask good questions, and notice when something doesn’t add up, you already have the foundation.

IT auditors start at $78,000 to $102,750. Senior IT auditors earn up to $130,500. IT audit managers reach $169,750, and internal audit directors earn up to $232,000. That is base pay, before bonus.
Public companies, banks, and healthcare organizations are required to maintain and test controls over their systems. Sarbanes-Oxley covers financial reporting, the HIPAA Security Rule covers patient data, the GLBA Safeguards Rule covers financial institutions. Companies have to do this testing even when they’re cutting budgets.

The question everyone asks
Partly. The World Economic Forum’s 2025 jobs report lists accountants and auditors among the roles it expects to shrink, and the part it’s talking about is the repetitive checklist work.
At the same time, ISACA, the body that certifies auditors, launched a new AI audit certification in 2025 because organizations are adopting AI faster than they can govern it. Someone has to test those systems, and that is audit work.
AI is most likely to replace the repetitive, clerical side of auditing. This class teaches the technical side, which is where the field is growing.

What else you could do
The exam is $575 for ISACA members and $760 if you aren’t one. It’s a real credential and worth getting eventually, but you need five years of experience before you can be certified, and it doesn’t teach you how to do the work or how to get hired.
The content is fine, but most people never finish a self-paced course, and there’s no one to answer your questions.

Yes. The class was built for people with full-time jobs. There are six sessions at 7pm Central, two hours each, twice a week for three weeks. If you can watch a movie after work, you can do this.
You don’t. IT audit means checking whether systems follow the security rules a company wrote down, like making sure people who leave lose their access and that changes get approved before they ship. If you have basic computer literacy and can read a checklist, we teach you the rest. You’re also far from alone in not having the degree. ISACA takes two years off the CISA experience requirement for a bachelor’s degree in any field, whether that’s accounting, English or biology. This profession has never required a computer science degree.
It’s enough to hold your own in an interview. You’ll know what IT general controls are, how an audit is planned and carried out, how to talk about risk, and how to answer the questions interviewers ask. Moving up to senior roles comes with experience on the job.
Support continues after class ends. Your $1,500 also covers a full resume review, interview preparation, and a debrief after each interview so the next one goes better. Once you’re on the job, you still have someone to call when you run into something new, and the career coaching never expires.
Yes. Entry-level IT audit is one of the few technical jobs you can get without a technical resume, because the work depends more on method and judgment than on deep technical skill. The last session helps you explain, in your own words, how your background fits the role. After that we rewrite your resume together, prepare you for interviews, and go over each one afterward.

Your instructor
Nii Tettey, CISA, CISM, leads IT audits of security and emerging technology at a global consumer goods company. Before that he spent six years in IT risk consulting at Grant Thornton and Baker Tilly, testing IT general controls, cybersecurity and SOC reporting for clients.
He came to IT audit from outside it, after early roles in software quality assurance and HR systems, so he knows what the switch takes. Since 2022 he has taught 37 students through IT Audit MasterClass.
